J’Burg and Home

Saturday we made the drive back to Johannesburg and went to the Apartheid Museum. This museum was great, and provided a good back ground into South Africa’s history and particularly those events that lead to apartheid and the post-apartheid democracy of today. We were there the day before Nelson Mandela’s 92nd birthday, also known as Madeba Day, so it was an inspirational and timely visit.

Saturday night we boarded a flight and said goodbye to South Africa. We had an amazing trip, and I think we both consider this one of our favorite trips and locations. I think we’ve learned so much and broadened our horizons more than we ever could have imagined. I found this quote in a magazine while we’ve been here, and I think it perfectly sums up my feelings about traveling and this trip in particular:

You may wonder, “how can I leave it all behind if I am just coming back to it? How can I make a new beginning if I simply return to the old?” The answer lies in the return. You will not come back to the “same old thing”. What you return to has changed because you have changed. Your perceptions will be altered.
