We went to downtown Cape Town Friday morning and walked through the Iziko Slave Lodge, one of the oldest buildings in SA, dating back to 1660. We also visited a lively market, large gardens and viewed the Houses of Parliament.
We drove out of Cape Town today and headed to Stellenbosch, South Africa’s version of Napa Valley. Although it is winter here and the vines are barren, it is beautiful. The view from our hotel room (picture below) is picturesque and there are an abundance of birds in the tree outside of our window; I could spend days here simply gazing out. But alas, there is also wine to taste!
We went to a large winery Friday afternoon, and also enjoyed a local African dinner and show, as well as viewed some cheetahs in their cheetah sanctuary. Saturday we drove to Franschhoek, a small towns in the mountains, and visited two wineries. We met a couple by way of their labradoodle, and enjoyed a drink with them. Apparently Duke (the labradoodle) is the first of his breed in all of SA.
