Meeting Your Great Aunt Donna

Aunt Donna drove over to meet you today. We had a nice chat with her and got to hear lots about your second cousin, Logan. We hope to meet her soon and introduce you to her. Also today your nana spent hours finishing your homemade diaper wipes. If I had a picture for today (which I do not), it would be you sleeping contentedly in your car seat next to nana sewing away on the sewing machine; you seemed to really like the sound and motion caused by the machine.

Two Weeks Old and First Snowshoe

We celebrated your two week birthday with a snowshoe outing with grandma and grandpa. We bundled you up and I put you into the baby wrap and we were off. It was a beautiful day and you did really well. You weren’t a fan of the blowing snow hitting your face, but really, who does enjoy that?!

First snowshoe adventure

First Trip to Breckenridge

I had my two week check-up today, and so your nana came to babysit you. This was the first time we’ve left you, and you (and she) did great. I also got to run some quick errands after my appointment and it was great to be out of the house.

We headed for the mountains this evening. It sure took us a long time to get everything packed and loaded into the car, and of course there was a snowstorm. There was an accident on the highway, so after being stopped for awhile we had to turn around, backtrack, and take a different route. You handled all of this marvelously, until the last 15 miles when you completely lost it. But once we got to the house and you ate, you composed yourself quite nicely.

7 lbs 7 oz!

You had your two-week check up today, and you were back up to your birth weight. I was so happy you hit this milestone, as we’ve had our troubles with feeding and it’s so hard to know if you’re eating enough. The doctor said your health is great, and she doesn’t need to see us back until you’re two months old. That seems so far away! We also had to go to the lab to get some blood drawn for a test for you. You got cranky on the way there, and screamed the whole time we were waiting for you to be called back. By the time they did call your name, I was just fried. Then I was holding you while they were trying to draw your blood, and you were crying the hardest you’ve ever cried, and it just broke my heart. The intensity of you crying so hard for so long, combined with the needles and your blood, plus throw in my lack of sleep, and I was a bit emotional – I too burst into tears. I am sure the lab technician thought we were all crazy. I was so thankful your dad was there with us, and we all learned a valuable lesson: in the future, your dad will hold you for all necessary shots and blood draws.

Home Alone

Today was your dad’s first day back to work, and therefore our first day home alone together. I certainly was sad to see him go. It’s been so great having him here this past week to help out as we adjusted to life with a little one. But, I’m happy to report that we survived the day just fine. And when dad got home, he was so excited to see you and be with you that I was able to go take a nice nap while he entertained you!

Running Errands

Your dad and I took you to run some errands, then went out for a late breakfast. It is so nice being able to get out of the house and enjoy some meals out with you; you do great! We also went for another, longer walk with you, and despite the cold, you’ve been sleeping right through them.

One Week Old!

We had a photo session at our house on your week birthday. It was such a fun time and I’m so glad we were able to capture your cuteness so early on! We had a funny incident during the naked baby shots. You pooped all over while I was holding you! We’ve been using an app to track your feedings and diaper changes, and on the app there is an option for ‘open air incident’. You afforded us our first opportunity to check that box on the app!

First visit to the Sun

Your dad and I ran some errands then decided to celebrate the first week of your life with some beers at our favorite, local brewpub the Southern Sun. We took you there and you did great, sleeping the whole time. It was so nice to be out and about, and sort of returning to our old routines.
